Full Description

Third and fourth century Roman pottery, including some New Forest wares, recovered from a ploughed field surface. <1>

A subsequent site visit by N. H. Field revealed a surface spread of material in a band about 20 m wide, including frequent broken ceramic roof tile and a small quantity of pottery, including one samian sherd. <2>

This site may be the site mentioned by Colt Hoare as having produced flue tiles and painted wall plaster. <1> <3>

A surface spread of artefacts of Roman date, including 3rd and 4th century potsherds and a quantity of broken roof tile. It has been tentatively identified with a site noted by Colt Hoare in the early 19th century as having yielded "flue tiles and stuccoed wall plaster". Note that the spread of debris is located to SU 001134 by some published sources, although the plans published by Bowen (1990) and Barrett et al (1991) suggest that is centred further to the west. A number of cropmark features, including thebanjo complex ST 91 SE 213 and rectangular enclosure ST 91 SE 217 are located immediately south and east of the spread of material. <4-5>
