Summary

The remains of a Medieval wayside cross, cut into the bank of a road verge approximately 70 metres north of St Michael's Church. It consists of the bottom part of a cross shaft set into a base, and the stone is very worn. The cross is of probable 15th century date and is thought to be in its original position, probably on the former village green. The socket stone is 0.26 metres high.

Full Description

A cross-base situated 50yds N of the church is set in an earth bank close to the road. Presumably Medieval, it comprises the foot of a shaft morticed into a base and fixed with lead. The stones are very worn and no mouldings remain. <4>

Pope, who saw the remains some time before 1906, records some bold chamfering on the upper edge of the socket-stone and dates the cross to the 15th century. Grade 2. <1-2>
