Summary

A bowl barrow close to the point where the parish boundaries of Buckland Newton, Cerne Abbas and Minterne Magna come together. The barrow is crossed by a hedge line, and the mound is reduced on either side. The barrow is recorded as around 50 feet in diameter with the mound around 5ft high where preserved under the hedge.

Full Description

A bowl barrow situated at ST 67410320, on the boundaries of Buckland Newton, Cerne Abbas and Minterne Magna, is 16 paces in diameter and 5ft high. Probably the one mentioned in the Buckland Newton charter of AD 941. <1>

The bowl barrow and adjacent boundary bank have been destroyed by ploughing. Site marked on 6" sheet. <2>

‘(23) Bowl barrow (67410320), on the ridge top W. of Holcombe Wood and on the boundary with Cerne Abbas and Minterne Magna, lies in a hedgerow, but ploughing has largely destroyed it on either side; diam. about 50 ft., ht. 5 ft.’
