Summary

A bowl barrow situated between the banks of the Dorset Cursus. In 1972 this monument was reported as being around 70 feet in diameter with a mound five feet high.

Full Description

(37) Bowl (01021519), between the banks of the Cursus, has been pared by ploughing; former diam. 70 ft., ht. 5 ft. <3>

A bowl barrow located between the banks of the Dorset Cursus (Linear 41), close to the northern side of the Cursus and a short distance southwest of the point where the Cursus is cut bu the Ackling Dyke Roman road. Listed by RCHME as Gussage All Saints 37 and by Grinsell as Gussage All Saints 4, it was described by RCHME as a mound which had been pared by ploughing but still measured circa 70 feet in diameter and 5 feet in height. The other barrow, Gussage All Saints 36, has now been recorded separately as SU 01 NW 234. <2-3>

‘The barrows of this group lie just N. of Drive Plantation Group and occupy a comparable situation. Most have been damaged by ploughing, and some have been totally levelled and are visible only on air photographs (58/RAF/3250: 0086; N.M.R., SU 0015/1/327; C.U.A.P., ANC 37). … (37) Bowl (01021519), between the banks of the Cursus, has been pared by ploughing; former diam. 70 ft., ht. 5 ft.'
