Summary

Documentary records show that Richard Collier of 'Boridge in Cranborne' left six pounds in a will proved in 1595 towards the erection of a church or chapel at Boveridge, and a chapel of ease is recorded there in 1650. Local tradition identifies the site of the chapel as being near Boveridge Farm, but fragments of building material observed on the site seem to be relatively modern.

Full Description

A chapel of ease at Boveridge is recorded in 1650 <1>

Richard Collier of 'Boridge in Cranborne', by a will proved in 1595, left #6 towards erecting a church or chapel at Boridge <2>.

The present Saint Aldhelm's Chapel (SU 01 SE 44) took the place of a chapel situated near Boveridge Farm. It traditionally stood at SU 06501496, as indicated by Mr. James, but although there was some building debris at this position, it appeared to be of fairly recent date, and there was no convincing evidence that the chapel was situated at this point. <3>

Pre- 19th century fittings at Saint Aldhelm's may come from the earlier chapel. <1-3>
