Summary

A surface scatter of flint including some microliths was collected near Crendell by Mr A T Morley Hewitt of Fordingbridge in the first half of the twentieth century. It was described as a 'flaking site with microliths'.

Full Description

Microlithic Site - Finds in MORLEY HEWITT COLLN. FORDINGBRIDGE. [Area centred SU 08041347] <1>

Microlithic Site at Crendell. [SU 08551347] <2>

This site is late Neolithic. No artifacts have been found here End finds consist of a few flint flakes & probably wasters. <3>

No artifacts or definite flint wasters were found in the area which is a grass covered, slightly marshy field sloping to the south. <4>

Microlithic flakes form the CRENDELL site were seen in the MORLEY HEWITT collection at FORDINGBRIDGE, and in the opinion of this investigator the site should be classified as Me. <5>

Numerous cores and blades and perforated mace hammerhead have been found at the site, all Mesolithic. <6>
