Monument record MDO5377 - Medieval settlement remains, Woolland

Earthworks including house platforms immediately west of Skinner's Farm are the remains of a medieval settlement. An early Ordnance Survey map shows there were still houses here in 1811, but these were removed when Woolland Park was enlarged in the mid-19th century.

ST 777074. Settlement remains, formerly part of Woolland village lie 50 yds north-north-east of the church and immediately west of Skinner's Farm. The earthworks are the sites of houses which still existed in 1811 (OS 1" 1811), and which were removed when Woolland Park was enlarged in the mid-19th century; they comprise well-preserved remains of rectangular closes bounded by banks and ditches. (OS 2" Drawing 1808-9 No 53 indicates the buildings (no longer visible) in two areas at ST 777071 and ST 777073. No clear indications of their remains can be seen on APs RAF CPE/UK/1974 1177-8). <1>
