Summary

One of a group of five bowl barrows on a spur of Muston Down. In 1970 this monument was described as visible as a shallow mound less than a foot high, and heavily ploughed. The barrow is visible as a low earthwork mound on lidar imagery and was digitally recorded during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM.

A bowl barrow. No dimensions given. <2>

A ditchless bowl barrow, diameter 14.0 metres and height 0.3metres. At present under crops. <3>

Bowl barrow (ST 86510011) situated at 350ft OD on the spine of the spur which forms the west part of Muston Down, has been ploughed down to an undeterminate mound less than 1ft high. <5>

‘These monuments lie in the N. and W. of the parish; most of them have been damaged, some severely so, by ploughing. … Five barrows (32-6) lie on a large spur running N.-S. which forms the W. part of Muston Down. Monument (32) is at 350 ft. O.D. on the spine of the spur; the others are further N. and just W. of the spur top, at over 400 ft. O.D.; they lie in an area of fragmentary ‘Celtic’ field remains (Group (66)), and have been heavily ploughed. (32) Bowl (86510011) has now been ploughed down to an indeterminate mound less than 1 ft. high.’
