Monument record MDO5264 - Bowl barrow, one of the North Down Group, Winterborne Kingston

One of a group of five barrows on a ridge. In 1970 this monument was described as visible as a shallow mound less than a foot high, and heavily ploughed. The barrow is visible as a cropmark ring ditch with remains of an internal mound on aerial photographs and lidar imagery during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM.

‘These monuments lie in the N. and W. of the parish; most of them have been damaged, some severely so, by ploughing. … Nos. (27-31) form a group on North Down. … The North Down Group of five barrows lies at the N. end of the Down, just within the parish boundary and on the spine of a N.E.-S.W. ridge, at about 350 ft. O.D. All the mounds have been heavily ploughed. … (31) Bowl (85239972), 45 yds. N.E. of (30), is now a slight rise of less than 1 ft.’
