Summary

One of a group of five barrows on a ridge. In 1970 this monument was described as heavily ploughed, and visible as a very slight mound. The barrow is visible as a cropmark double-concentric ring ditch with remains of an internal mound on aerial photographs and lidar imagery during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM.

Full Description

The site of a plough-levelled Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark double-concentric ring ditch with remains of an internal mound (8m across) on aerial photographs and lidar imagery <2-4>. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM.

‘These monuments lie in the N. and W. of the parish; most of them have been damaged, some severely so, by ploughing. … Nos. (27-31) form a group on North Down. … The North Down Group of five barrows lies at the N. end of the Down, just within the parish boundary and on the spine of a N.E.-S.W. ridge, at about 350 ft. O.D. All the mounds have been heavily ploughed. … (30) Bowl (85209969), 60 yds. N.E. of (29), is in similar condition.’
