HER comment: There does not appear to be a number 22 in Conway Drive. Number 22 Broadmead at NGR 372579, 86625 is close to the grid reference given in <1>.

‘During building operations at Broadmayne, in October 1965, at approximately NGR. SY 726866, some 200 yds. W. of the church, a drainage trench was cut from Rectory Road through the gardens to the south of the bungalows in Conway Drive. Our member, Mr. D. Young, has informed the writer (R.N.R.P.) of the discovery of … In the garden of No. 22 the drainage trench was driven through a pit 4ft. deep, 3ft. 9 in. wide at the bottom, 4ft. 9in. wide at the top. Within the pit were the remains of a crouched burial, at the back of which was a shattered long-necked beaker. There were no other grave goods between the skeleton and the back of the pit, which was the only part of the burial that could be excavated at all carefully. The beaker stands 7 and a quarter ins. high, 3 and a quarter ins. wide at the base, 5ins. wide at the rim.’

‘Pits and debris indicating settlement into the 4th century have since been found in the village (726866; Dorset Procs. LXXXVIII (1966), 103).’
