Full Description

A barrow noted by Rodney Legg and later recorded by L V Grinsell, 15th October 1980. It was measured varioiusly as ten- or fifteen paces wide, and 1 foot high (OS 495/ M RP/1981)

ST 94400400. Round barrow, 15 paces diameter and 1ft. High visited by Grinsell in 1980. The barrow was originally discovered by Rodney Legg whose measurements were 10 paces diameter and 3ft. High. <1>

A possible Bronze Age round barrow is recorded as cropmarks on 2015 Historic England oblique aerial photographs. It is visible as a ring ditch with broad ditch (about 2-3m wide) enclosing an area with a diameter of about 20m. It is also recorded on 2005 and 2018 Google Earth vertical aerial photographs. This could be the barrow described in NRHE record 209271 but the location information in that record is not clear enough to be certain. It is centred at ST 9446 0396. (3-5)

‘Visible as a faint swelling in a field regularly ploughed; newly ploughed and planted with a grass crop when visited. Severely reduced and spread by ploughing. A few large flints and chalkier soil composition differentiates the mound from the surrounding field.’
