Summary

A Bronze Age ditched bowl barrow just to the north of Buzbury Rings, one of several barrows on Rawston Down. The barrow has been ploughed down but the mound and most of the ditch is still visible as an earthwork. The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water. The feature is visible as a sub-circular mound encircled by an outer ring ditch on aerial photographs and as a mounded earthwork on Environment Agency lidar imagery. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A ditched bowl barrow 470m south east of Ashley Wood Golf Club House, one of several barrows on Rawston Down. The barrow lies between two linear earthworks which extend east from the hillfort. The barrow has a flat topped mound 11m in diameter and 0.5m high, which has an irregular surface and perimeter. The mound is surrounded by a ditch with an irregular profile, 2m wide and 0.2m deep, which is visible on all but the north east side where the mound appears to have been spread across it.

The feature is visible as a sub-circular mound encircled by an outer ring ditch on aerial photographs and as a mounded earthwork on Environment Agency lidar imagery <3, 4>. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
