Monument record MDO51317 - Medieval or later drove road, Daggles Drove, Leigh

Please read our .

Summary

A historic drove road to the southeast of Leigh is shown on the OS Epoch 1 6" to the mile map published in 1888, named Daggles Drove. The feature is visible as a field track hedged on both sides on aerial photographs of 1947, only partially tree lined in 1972 but surviving as a ditched linear earthwork on current lidar and satellite imagery. A historic track shown on the OS historic maps running across the field between Daggles Drove and a further section of track to the northwest (also named Daggles Drove on modern maps) may preserve the line of the drove road, which might once have continued beyond its current extent. Possibly of medieval origin but appears to truncate a historic medieval derived field, which might indicate a post medieval date.
