Monument record MDO51016 - Prehistoric pit with chalk half discs at Grimstone Reservoir, Stratton

Summary
A pit found during an archaeological excavation at Grimstone Reservior in 2011. In the pit five perforated chalk half discs with concentric central perforations were found. The half discs were set upright and lying side by side with the curved side down. They have very similar diameters but different thicknesses. Their use is not currently known but it is thought the centre of the stones may have held a shaft and the half discs may have been used as part of a loom.
