Monument record MDO50959 - Later prehistoric to medieval lynchets, Oborne, Castleton

Banked lynchets are visible as earthworks to the west of Oborne on lidar and satellite imagery and aerial photographs. The features follow the contour of slope and might be medieval in origin, although they could potentially be earlier in date. Some of the features might be lost below the extended limeworks.

Banked lynchets are visible as earthworks to the west of Oborne on lidar and satellite imagery and aerial photographs. The features follow the contour of slope and might be medieval in origin, although they could potentially be earlier in date. Some of the features might be lost below the extended limeworks.

A field system of possible medieval date (MDO50959) is visible in fields to the west, with some of the field boundaries running perpendicular to and abutting the lynchets. They could suggest this is all part of a contemporary medieval field system, although the lynchets might be earlier features (DC 1972; EA 2022; GE 2009).
