Summary

A probable ploughed-down Bronze Age bowl barrow on the parish boundary between Bincombe and Broadmayne, not far from the Culliford tree barrow group and visible on aerial photographs.

Full Description

A bowl barrow situated on the boundary of two arable fields and crossed by a hedge. Diameter 22.0m. north to south and 1.3m. high taken to the west. Destroyed by ploughing on the east side and much spread on the west. <1>

Bowl barrow 35 paces in diameter by 3 1/2ft. high. On Broadmayne boundary. Excavation records of unlocated barrows above Bincombe, probably near Ridgeway. <2>

A round barrow possibly existed on the boundary between Broadmayne and Bincombe, at SY 70398513. <4>

A mound at SY 70378513, at present in pasture, is probably a ploughed-down bowl barrow. Its diameter was approximately 30.0m but it has been destroyed on the north-east side by a track. The surviving portion is 0.7m high at maximum; it has been mutilated and spread. Published survey (1:2500) revised. <5>

'The ten barrows in the parish (20-9) are all on the Ridgeway in Culliford Tree Goup (R.II), Whitcombe (p. 459), though another possibly existed on the boundary with Bincombe, S. of the group, at 70398513.'
