Monument record MDO50870 - Wall behind Wadham House High West street Dorchester

Summary
Archaeological observations of demolition and rebuilding of a wall behind Wadham House in 2013 revealed a post-medieval limestone, flint and red brick wall between 0.62 and 0.72m deep and about 2.5m high. The wall has a rubble core bonded with lime mortar and lime mortar was also used on the inner face of the wall. The wall appears to predate Wadham House which was built in the early 19th century. Some of the limestone appears to be shapped and is possibly from another structure and may be of Roman origin.
