Full Description
A steep sided sub-oval earthwork on Patson Hill, Castleton, is visible as an earthwork on 2022 composite DTM lidar and current satellite imagery. The earthwork is shown on the OS Epoch 1 1:25 inch map, published in 1887. Its origin is uncertain but it is possibly a former quarry of post medieval date, some years of Google Earth imagery show it to contain water but it is now largely under vegetation and tree cover (EA 2022; OS 1887).
Ordnance Survey, Ordnance Survey 25-inch map, epoch 1 (Map). SDO10239.
Environment Agency, 2022, LiDAR Composite Viewer - Digital Terrain Model 1m (Aerial Photograph). SDO21777.
