Monument record MDO50641 - Possible medieval ridge and furrow, Kitford, Ibberton, Fifehead Neville

Several areas of medieval to post medieval ridge and furrow to the south of Kitford are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The areas are divided by curvilinear ditched features that might be field boundaries and/or drainage ditches, also of potentially medieval to post medieval date. The features were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Several areas of medieval ridge and furrow to the south of Kitford are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1945; RAF 1947; EA 2018). The areas are divided by curvilinear ditched features that might be field boundaries, also potentially medieval in date, but perhaps later; some of the field boundaries are marked by broken rows of trees on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map, indicating they were already removed by the late 19th century (OS c1880). The features were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Some of the ridge and furrow is no longer visible on lidar.
