Full Description
A trackway in Balmers Coombe Bottom, Stoke Wake, is visible as an earthwork on early aerial photographs (CCC undated; RAF 1945) . The trackway runs northwest from the site of the former Balmers Coombe Barn, shown on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map, before turning southwest towards the fields adjoining Rawlsbury Farm. The feature is probably of post medieval or earlier date; it appears still possibly in use on an undated aerial photograph from the Crawford Collection, so possibly 1920s (CCC undated). It was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project. The feature is still faintly visible on current lidar imagery (EA 2018).
