Full Description

(94841077), 200 yds, N.W. of Hyde Hill Plantation, lies at 350 ft above O.D. on the shoulder of a westward-facing slope; diam. 60 ft., ht. 5 ft., which traces of a surrounding ditch. A low mound 35 yds to the N., sometimes taken as a barrow, is almost certainly the remains of a 'Celtic' field angle. <2>

The probable Bronze Age round barrow referred to above is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The barrow is centred at ST 9484 1078, measures 21m in diameter and comprises a circular mound which is surrounded by a ring ditch. The barrow mound measures circa 17 metres in diameter. A hollow in the top of the mound may indicate that it has been partly excavated. The surrounding ring ditch has become in-filled over the years. <3>

A Bronze Age bowl barrow 700m south of Old Turnpike, Tarrant Launceston, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery <4-5>. The feature comprises a central circular mound approximately 16m in diameter, within a 2.7m wide ditch. An oval hollow within the mound may be due to prior excavation. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
