Full Description
Two possible post medieval chalk pits are visible as shallow ditched earthworks to the south of Rawlsbury Wood, Hilton, on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; EA 2018). The features are within an area of possible medieval ridge and furrow and could alternatively be pockets of soft ground resulting from this. The features were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
