Full Description
Two large quarry pits, a small adjacent pit and linear banks are visible as ditched and banked earthworks to the south of the manor house, Woolland, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1945; EA 2018). The earthworks are shown on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map, the smallest of the ditched features shown as an old chalk pit (OS c1880). The features might all be quarries, pits and earthworks associated with chalk extraction and were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
