Summary

A loose spread of post medieval extractive pits alongside an area of disturbed ground are visible as shallow ditched earthworks to the east of Balmers Coombe Bottom and extending towards Bulbarrow Down, Stoke Wake, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are on or border clay with flints geology and might be flint or chalk pits of post medieval origin. They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

A loose spread of post medieval extractive pits alongside an area of disturbed ground are visible as shallow ditched earthworks to the east of Balmers Coombe Bottom and extending towards Bulbarrow Down, Stoke Wake, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1945; EA 2018). The features are on or border clay with flints geology and might be flint or chalk pits of post medieval origin. They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
