The features might be chalk pits of post medieval origin and were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Two post medieval extractive pits are visible as shallow ditched earthworks on the south side of Woolland Hill, Woolland, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1945; EA 2018). The features might be chalk pits of post medieval origin and were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
