Summary

A post medieval extractive pit is visible as a ditched earthwork on the north side of Woolland Hill, Woolland, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature borders clay with flints geology and several flint pits and chalk pits are recorded in the close vicinity. The feature is also considered likely to be either a flint or chalk pit of post medieval origin and was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

A post medieval extractive pit is visible as a ditched earthwork on the north side of Woolland Hill, Woolland, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1945; EA 2018). The feature borders clay with flints geology and several flint pits and chalk pits are recorded in the close vicinity. The feature is also considered likely to be either a flint or chalk pit of post medieval origin and was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
