Summary

Two post medieval extractive pits are visible as shallow ditched earthworks within a field to the west of The Stubbs, Winterborne Houghton, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are on clay with flints geology and several flint pits and chalk pits are recorded in the vicinity. The features are also considered likely to be either flint or chalk pits of post medieval origin and were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Two post medieval extractive pits are visible as shallow ditched earthworks within a field to the west of The Stubbs, Winterborne Houghton, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1945; EA 2018). The features are on clay with flints geology and several flint pits and chalk pits are recorded in the vicinity. The features are also considered likely to be either flint or chalk pits of post medieval origin and were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
