Full Description
A loose spread of post medieval extractive pits are visible as shallow ditched earthworks within The Stubbs, Winterborne Houghton, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1945; EA 2018). The features are on or border clay with flints geology and several flint pits and chalk pits are recorded in the vicinity. One of the larger pits is shown but not named on the Epoch a5 map (OS 1962). The features are also considered likely to be either flint or chalk pits of post medieval origin and were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
