Full Description
A loose spread of post medieval extractive pits are visible as shallow ditched earthworks on South Down, Ibberton, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; RAF 1947; EA 2018). The features are on or border clay with flints geology and several flint pits and chalk pits in the vicinity are documented on the OS Epoch 1 map and recorded separately. This grouping is not shown on any mapping but are also likely to be either flint or chalk pits of post medieval origin and were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
