Summary

A post medieval extractive pit is visible as a shallow ditched earthwork on the south side of Ibberton on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature is just off the clay with flints geology and adjacent to a larger pit recorded as an old chalk pit on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map and is probably a chalk pit as well. It was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Full Description

A post medieval extractive pit is visible as a shallow ditched earthwork on the south side of Ibberton on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; EA 2018). The feature is just off the clay with flints geology and adjacent to a larger pit recorded as an old chalk pit on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map (OS c1880) and is probably a chalk pit as well. It was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
