Summary

A cluster of post medieval extractive pits are visible as shallow ditched earthworks on Aplin's Heath Hill, Ibberton, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are adjacent to a feature recorded a flint pit on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map and could also be post medieval flint pits, or alternatively chalk pits. They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Full Description

A cluster of post medieval extractive pits are visible as shallow ditched earthworks on Aplin's Heath Hill, Ibberton, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; EA 2018). The features are adjacent to a feature recorded a flint pit on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map (OS c1880) and could also be post medieval flint pits, or alternatively chalk pits. They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
