Full Description
Banked linear features are visible as earthworks to the southwest of Belchalwell Street, Okeford Fitzpaine, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; EA 2018). The features appear in the main to conform to the historic field pattern, comprising removed field boundaries of probable medieval origin, some possibly of later, post medieval, date. One area of probable ridge and furrow is also visible on lidar (EA 2018). They conform to two curvilinear field boundaries recorded on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map and still extant on a 1940s aerial photograph (OS c1880; RAF 1947). Some curvilinear boundaries to the east of the area form narrow curving strips and are probably part of an area of former medieval strip field. The features were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
