Summary

Three post medieval extractive pits are visible as sub-circular ditched earthworks to the southeast of Houghton Wood, Winterborne Houghton, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features are recorded as old chalk pits on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map of c1880. They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Full Description

Three post medieval extractive pits are visible as sub-circular ditched earthworks to the southeast of Houghton Wood, Winterborne Houghton, on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; EA 2018). The features are recorded as old chalk pits on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map of c1880 (OS c1880). They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
