A group of Old Chalk Pits are marked on the OS 1st edition map to the south of Cross Lanes, Melcombe Horsey (OS 1880's). They are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.(EA 2023).
