Summary

An unannotated hollow is marked on the OS 1st edition map to the north of the medieval settlemnet of melcombe Horsey. It is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and considered likely to be the site of a post medieval extractive pit, probably for chalk; it was digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Full Description

An 'Old Chalk Pit' is marked on the OS 1st edition map to the south of Castle Lane, Buckland Newton (1). It is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and was digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project (2).
