Summary

One of a group of four Bronze Age round barrows on Barton Hill. In 1972 this monument was reported as being much reduced by ploughing but visible on aerial photographs as a circular soil mark around fifty feet in diameter.

Full Description

A ring ditch visible as cropmarks on air photographs. Part of a cemetery group of levelled barrows, this ring ditch was originally recorded as part of ST 91 SW 94 (barrow 'C'). Located 33 metres east of 'B' (ST 91 SW 94) and 18 metres west of 'D' (ST 91 SW 111), this ring ditch is circa 21 metres in maximum diameter, and appears to feature a roughly central grave or pit. <2>

'Four round barrows on Barton Hill (40-43), now totally flattened by cultivation, are visible as soil-marks on air photographs (N.M.R. ST 9113/1; V 58/RAF/3250: 0135); they lie at over 300 ft. above O.D. on the summit of a spur overlooking the Tarrant valley … (42) Barrow (92991152); diam. about 50 ft.'
