Full Description
Several banked linear features and a single curvilinear ditched feature are visible as earthworks to the southwest of Child Okeford on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; EA 2018). The features partly infill historic field plots recorded on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch c1880s map (OS c1880) but others do not conform precisely to the historic pattern and alignment. Some closely set broad linear banks might be those of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation but the features are more generally considered to be field boundaries of potentially medieval origin, possibly doubling as drainage ditches to the south, closer towards the river floodplain. The features were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
