Summary

The remains of an extensive medieval field system (including parallel strip field boundaries) are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery in fields surrounding the medieval settlement of Melcombe Horsey. Some of the field boundaries may be of earlier prehistoric origin but are likely to have been reused in the medieval period. The features cover an area of over 110 hectares and were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
