Summary

A series of parallel linear features are visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery to the east of Nettlecombe Farm, Melcombe Horsey. They are considered likely to be the remains of a medieval strip field system and are associated with a scarped field boundary which may be contemporary with them, or of earlier date. The features cover an area of 2 hectares and were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Full Description

A series of parallel linear features are visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery (Environment Agency 2021) to the east of Nettlecombe Farm, Melcombe Horsey. They are considered likely to be the remains of a medieval strip field system and are associated with a scarped field boundary which may be contemporary with them, or of earlier date. The features cover an area of 2 hectares and were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
