Full Description
A probable post medieval chalk pit is visible as an earthwork on a spur of Shillingstone Hill to the south of Shillingstone on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; EA 2018). The feature comprises a 50m by 28m scarped depression which is situated a short distance south of a large chalk pit (MDO26064) recorded on the OS Epoch 1 map (OS c1880), linked by a historic trackway. It was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
