Full Description
A large post medieval clay pit around 110m by 136m in extent is visible as an earthwork to the south of Okeford Fitzpaine on 1940s aerial photographs (RAF 1947). The feature is recorded on the OS Epoch 1 25 inch map where it forms part of a Brick and Tile Works (MDO26036). The extent of the extractive area on a 1947 aerial photograph is larger than that shown c1880s and appears roughly the same size on current Environment Agency lidar imagery (OS c1880; EA 2018). The feature was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
