Summary

An area of probable post medieval drainage system, possibly with earlier elements, is visible as earthworks along a section of the River Stour to the north of Shillingstone on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery. The features probably continue drainage ditches and water channels visible closer to the river to the east, now truncated by the railway line (MDO49618). They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Full Description

An area of post medieval drainage system, possibly with earlier elements, is visible as earthworks along a section of the River Stour to the north of Shillingstone on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; RAF 1947; EA 2018). The features probably continue drainage ditches and water channels visible closer to the river to the east, now truncated by the railway line (MDO49618). They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
