Full Description
Areas of ridge and furrow cultivation interspersed by linear banked field boundaries are visible as earthworks to the east of Shillingstone on aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947; RAF 1970; EA 2018). The features probably form part of an area of former medieval field system. The OS Epoch 1 map of c1880s shows historic fields divided by the railway, suggesting the field system might once have continued to the southwest (MDO49544). The features were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
