Summary

Several linear banks are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery to the south of St Mary's Church, Stepleton Iwerne. The features are considered to be land boundries of probable medieval date and could be associated with an area of deserted medieval settlement. The deserted medieval settlement of Iwerne Stepleton is recorded under MDO4123 but no traces are believed to survive. The features were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Full Description

Several linear banks are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar imagery to the south of St Mary's Church, Stepleton Iwerne (EA 2018). The features form the south and west sides of a possible rectilinear enclosure and are considered to be land boundries of probable medieval date that could be associated with an area of deserted medieval settlement. The deserted medieval settlement of Iwerne Stepleton is recorded under MDO4123 but no traces are believed to survive. The features were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
