A large hollow is marked as 'Old Gravel Pit' on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map on the southern slope of Hog Hill, Melcombe Horsey (OS 1888 (1). It is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and was digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM Project. (Environment Agency 2021 (2)).
