Full Description
A group of three possible extractive pits, possibly post medieval chalk pits, are visible as earthworks to the southwest of St Mary's Church, Iwerne Courtney or Shroton, on Environment Agency lidar imagery (EA 2018). The central and largest of the features is depicted on the OS 1st Epoch 25 inch map (OS c1880), all three on the OS Epoch 2a map (OS 1962). The features are located on the west side of linear earthworks that might form part of a later prehistoric cross dyke. They were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
