Full Description
A post medieval quarry around 90m by 50m in size is visible as an earthwork to the northwest of St Mary's Church at Iwerne Courtney or Shroton on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery (RAF 1947) (EA 2018). The feature is shown as an old quarry on the OS 1st Epoch 25 inch map (OS c1880). A 1947 aerial photograph shows a small rectangular building and trackways on the north side of the quarry, which might be associated (RAF 1947). The features were digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.
The building is no longer extant on current APGB imagery (Next Persepctives 2021). The quarry and some of the trackways are still visible on lidar imagery (EA 2018).
