Full Description
A large hollow is marked as 'Old Chalk Pit' on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map to the west of the Dorsetshire Gap, Melcombe Horsey (1888 (1)). It is visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and was digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM Project. It is one of a group of hollows which are considered likely to be the result of post medieval extraction. (Environment Agency 2021 (2)).
