A group of 'Old Chalk Pits' is marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map on the north east facing slope of Nettlecombe Tout, Melcombe Horsey. (1888 (1)). They are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and were digitally recorded during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM Project. (Environment Agency 2021 (2)).
